We are deeply saddened by the death of Sheila Adhiambo Lumumba, a Kenyan lesbian.
Sheila’s body was discovered in her house earlier this week after she failed to report to work for three days. We have credible reports that Lumumba was assaulted and murdered in her home by a gang of six men.
In many African countries, colonial anti-LGBTQ laws and attitudes are still in full force, and LGBTQ individuals continue to be routinely targeted by those who claim to be fighting to preserve “traditional values”.
Violence and discrimination against the LGBTQ community in Kenya needs to end.
We demand justice for Sheila.
